Gopal Godse was the younger brother of Nathuram Godse. Both the siblings were convicted for the murder of Mahatma Gandhi. Nathuram Godse was hanged to death in 1949, Gopal Godse was sentenced to life imprisonment.

“The court held that, sentence of life imprisonment is a sentence for life and nothing else and therefore a prisoner sentenced to life imprisonment is bound to serve the remainder of his life in prison, until or unless his sentence was commuted or remitted by the appropriate government”.
